We have arranged our opening times to accommodate the needs of children and families. Flexible session times may also be arranged providing that they do not disrupt the pattern of continuity in the setting that provides stability for children already in the nursery.
We arrange our waiting list on a first come, first served scheme. In addition to this, we may take into account whether sibling(s) already attend the setting. There will only be one new child per session so time and attention is given to their new needs. Parents are welcome to visit with their child. Then a taster session can be arranged with the setting leader or manager.
Younger children will take longer to settle in, as they may not have spent time away from home. Children who have had a period of absence may also need some extra time to get back into nursery life. We reserve the right not to accept a child if they are too distressed to be left without a relative. We do not believe a crying child will settle quickly and thrive within the nursery routine.
We judge a child to be settled when they have formed a relationship with a key person. Where they seem secure in their presence and are able to look for them as a source of comfort. Parents are welcome to call any time of day. Parents will be informed of their child's day on collection and if any further inquires or discussions are wanted they can be also arranged at this time.
Starting nursery is a big transition for a child and sometimes a parent. Making relationship with both is important to us so we can meet this complex change with our experience and care. We aim to make our environment comfortable and relaxed for all parties involved and any questions, concerns, contributions and suggestions are welcomed.
